COMPOST 2022

The United States Composting Council’s COMPOST 2022 is scheduled for January 24 – 27, 2022 in Austin, Texas. This is the Council’s 30th annual conference and is anticipated to be the world’s largest composting event with over 90 speakers, 100 exhibitors, and more than 1,000 attendees. I am excited because this will be my first in-person conference and trade show since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to the conference and exhibits, there will also be a number of excellent workshops and tours. I am thrilled to be working with my fellow Composting Subject Matter Experts, Mark King, Bob Peer, and Bobby Clark to conduct a workshop on composting mass animal mortalities.

Since the 2015 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreak in the Midwestern United States, composting has become the primary animal carcass disposal method for mass mortality events and has been used in every major avian influenza outbreak and natural disaster in the US since then. This workshop will cover both the technical and legal aspects of these challenging situations. I hope you can join us to learn how to compost animal mortality at a catastrophic scale. Perhaps you would like to become a composting Subject Matter Expert for future agricultural emergencies?
