Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Continues to Impact Latin America

There seems to be no immediate reprieve from outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza impacting the Americas. Mexico recently reported 17 outbreaks on commercial farms, many of which were commercial egg-laying operations.

A number of South American countries continue to experience outbreaks within waterfowl, backyard, and domestic poultry. Last week I continued my support for the region by conducting a consultation for the Peruvian government focused on the depopulation and disposal of impacted poultry and waterfowl. Many thanks to the Pan American Health Organization for organizing the consultation!

Good luck to Peru and all the impacted countries in the region!
