International BioThreat Reduction Symposium (IBTRS)

Updated: Jun 30, 2021

Early this morning, following a welcome and introductory remarks by Dr. Ada Bacetty, Minister of Health of Ukraine, and Dr. Viktor Liashko, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine, I had the pleasure of delivering the keynote address for the International Biothreat Reduction Symposium. IBTRS is a great opportunity for Ukrainian scientists to share in an international exchange of current research, methodology, and practical issues in bacteriological and viral threat research, policy, and biosecurity. I hope that my presentation entitled, A view from the field: Responding to infectious animal diseases from a OneHealth perspective, was a fitting start to this 4-day event.

The agenda includes presentations on:

· OneHealth

· Biosafety and Biosecurity

· Public Health

· Vector-borne Zoonotic Disease

· Emerging Infectious Diseases

· Zoonotic Disease

· Antibiotic Resistance

· Diagnostic Development

· Infectious Diseases of Humans and Animals

Registration is still open and free to all. If these topics interest you, I encourage you to visit the IBTRS website (https://swmprogramua.com/ibtrs-2021/) and register for the final days of the symposium.

Many thanks to Dr. Megan Howard for the invitation to participate along with the rest of the Battelle team, Jacobs, and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency for making this event possible!
